Product Reviews: Self-tan

Hey there Beleza Babies!

Today's post is going to be all about self-tan. Now, I don't know about you guys, but I always feel 100% more confident when I have a bit of colour. On the other hand, smelly, orange & streaky skin is never a good look, so it's important to find a self-tanner that is easy to apply and leaves a smooth, golden finish. These two products are my personal favourites; they're both purse-friendly and have great results.

#1: Garnier Summer Body: Deep sunkissed look (currently on offer for around £4 in Sainsburys!)

This product is a gradual self-tanner rather than an instant fake tan, which means you need to build up a few layers to get the colour you like. However, I feel like this leaves me with so much more control - one layer applied before bed will leave you looking gently sunkissed in the morning, while adding a couple more layers will give a deeper tanned look. This means you can build up your tan gradually to the colour you prefer, without suddenly turning brown overnight! I personally purchase this product in the 'deep sunkissed look' because I feel like it's much more effective. The lighter look barely makes any difference to your skin colour, and I'm practically an albino so paler girls you can definitely pull the 'deep' colour off! The scent is pretty good although there are admittedly undertones of fake-tan in there, but the apricot smell is much better than 99% of other products for this price. It also doubles as a moisturiser, leaving your skin silky soft.

#2: Rimmel Sun Shimmer: Medium Matte (£3)

Another great product, this can be applied for instant colour. The colour is natural and not at all orangey, and the smell is quite subtle. It also leaves skin feeling really smooth and soft, which is an added bonus as this isn't marketed as containing any moisturising properties. The only downside to this product is that it washes off - however, it doesn't rub off at all and lasts for a good 24 hours as promised, so you don't have to worry about it getting all over your clothes. This product is ideal when you're in a rush and about to go on a night out and feel just too pasty to wear that killer skirt - it only takes a couple of minutes to rub this into bare legs (use a mitt to avoid oompa loompa hands!) and your legs instantly look naturally tanned. Got to love the £3 price tag as well.

How about you guys? What are your fav tanning products?

  1. I love the rimmel fake tan it is my go to fake tan all of the time the only let down of it is that u literally cannot get it wet at all so not great if u are in a busy bar/club with drinks flying all around the place. I have seen that they have brought out a water resistant one now though so I may give that a bash. I usually go for the light shimmer as I found that the medium matte was too dark to correct if i made a mistake.

I also love the Lauren's Way Darker than Dark mouse but this is DARK my boyfriend hates it! but it is great for building up a sunkissed tan

  2. Ahh a water resistant version sounds great!
I'm a little scared to try really dark fake tan as I'm so naturally pale it tends to look a little ridiculous on me, but it's deffo worth bearing in mind when you already have a base tan in summer and want to make an extra impact :)
I've recently added a 'Join this Site' button for GFC on the right hand side, should be appearing there now! Thank you so much for your comment and support x
